We are seeking a Vice President of Communications and Development to join our executive team! Summary of Position A creative, strategic leader responsible for overseeing NEV’s communication and development activities including marketing, public relations, fundraising and advocacy.
The Vice President of Communications and Development works with leadership across the organization to raise visibility, increase revenue and create awareness and excitement about NEV’s mission, services, leadership, and staff.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this position’s primary responsibility is to effectively develop, lead, and manage the communications and fund development strategies and functions of NEV.
This position plays a key role in supporting the organization’s projected annual budget growth, generating the resources, partnerships, and platforms required to achieve NEV goals.
The efforts of the Vice President and their team will generate contributed revenue by increasing gifts, sponsorships, and grants through successful relationship building, solicitations, and marketing communications.
In addition to successfully leading all fundraising activities, the Vice President will oversee communications, marketing, events, and brand strategy for the overall organization.
Essential Job Functions Organizational Leadership and Management: Oversee and ensure the high performance of the Communications and Development team.
Lead a team to develop and execute against multi-year strategic goals and annual workplans Mentor and coach direct reports, delegating work streams effectively Foster efficient and effective cross-functional teamwork and results-oriented deliverables Develop and manage the budget for communications, marketing, and development activities across NEV Serve as a contributing member of the organization’s Executive Team Communications / Marketing: Create and execute a communications and marketing strategy to promote a strong public image, expand community inclusion opportunities for individuals served and advance fund development priorities and other organizational goals and objectives.
Manage the development of substantive, consistent messaging across the organization to promote NEV’s mission, vision, values, and services.
Develop an annual plan for communications and marketing with input from Senior Leadership, the Executive Team, Board of Directors, and other constituents.
Manage internal and external communications for NEV programs, new initiatives, and public policy positions.
Direct communications efforts for community outreach, press, and public awareness campaigns.
Support and possibly serve as a stand-in for the CEO or other leaders for public appearances and for responses to media inquiries.
Oversee the writing, editing, production, dissemination, and maintenance of all written and electronic communications, including social media, press releases, op-ed pieces, newsletters, annual reports, websites, and promotional materials.
Development / Fundraising: Develop, lead, and manage effective strategies for obtaining donations and grants that advance the organization’s goals and priorities and contribute to financial sustainability.
Lead, manage and model best practices to support stewardship throughout the donor lifecycle.
Manage relationships within a portfolio of prospects to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward these individuals.
Track individual and corporate donors and plan the “next steps” with each prospect.
Manage annual giving appeals that work to acquire, retain, and engage donors through direct mail, digital, and email communications.
Be visible in the community to a range of external constituents, attending community and professional events, as needed.
Strategically engage members of the Board of Directors and other staff in fundraising efforts.
Knowledge and Experience Required BA Degree and a minimum of 5-7 years’ senior level experience in all or most of the functional areas of non-profit communications, public relations, development, brand recognition and marketing.
Proficient in MS Office Suite and computer skills and proficiency in development software preferred.
Skills and Abilities Required Ability to work independently, while being a strong team player who will productively engage with others within and outside NEV Impeccable integrity, judgment, and discretion.
Must be a proficient and diplomatic communicator.
