Softscape Crew Leader/Foreman
This role requires high quality planting installations, developing highly productive and well-skilled crews, and cultivating strong relationships with landscape architects, general contractors, and clients.
The Crew Leader/Foreman regularly supervises the activities of crews ranging from 3 to 6 people.
The Crew Leader is a close partner with the Project Manager in supporting their efforts and developing the skill sets to become a Project Manager.
To do this you must lead, organize, teach, and motivate your crew to work in a focused way at a consistently solid pace.
You must keep the site organized and communicate well with your crew, Project Manager, and company Administration and Management.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Installs the highest quality landscape projects.
Communicates well and presents a strong image with crew, Project Manager, Landscape Architect, General Contractor, administration, and management.
Directs and leads laborers and all planting activities of crew members; analyzes and resolves worker problems.
Prepare and grade lawn areas and planting beds; planting of plants, shrubs, trees, and lawn areas using manual and/or power operated machines; includes mulching, fertilizing, watering plant materials; digging of trenches if needed.
Understands proper use of all tools and equipment; maintains equipment daily, checks all fluid levels and fills if needed.
Communicates well and completes daily reports for crew labor time, materials, and subcontractors; provides consistent job site and/or personnel information to supervisor by phone or in person.
Fosters a spirit of teamwork and cooperation among all whom he/she comes in contact.
Trains, mentors, and develops skill sets of crew members and learns the job of the next immediate Supervisor.
Safety: Enforce RP Marzilli’s Safety Program and maintain a Clean Job Site.
Promote a climate that emphasizes the importance of complying with all safety measures and requirements.
Proper use of PPE (Safety Glass, Ear Protection, Hard Hats, Gloves, Hi Vis Clothing).
Daily clean-up to prevent hazards and injuries.
Ensure all equipment is operated, maintained, and cleaned per best practices.
Confirm all personnel using any equipment are properly trained, supervised, and certified if required.
Understand RP Marzilli’s reporting protocols and report accidents as required.
Conduct weekly Safety Toolbox Talks.
Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to mentor and coach team members
Ability to convey positive attitude even when things are less than optimal.
Time management skills; must abide by and enforce strict punctuality policies.
Knowledge and experience in plant materials and proper planting practices
Read and accurately interpret landscape plans for installations.
Machinery operation – Hoisting/Hydraulics license
Valid Driver’s License, CDL preferred.
Safety Training – CPR/First Aid, Safety Program
Self-motivation, positive attitude, good listening, and communication skills
Layout – Read and accurately interpret landscape plans for installations.
Grading – using a laser.
Time management skills; must abide by and enforce strict punctuality policies.
Leadership – ability to run a crew and communicate.
Multi-Tasking – ability to think on several dimensions and think ahead.
Problem solving – critical and creative thinking, identifying problems prior to installation.
Self-motivation and a positive attitude.
Physical Requirements:
Strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical work in all weather conditions.
Physical agility is required to access all areas of properties and construction sites.
Assist in manual labor and lift and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Lift and place materials weighing up to pounds many times per day.
