General Function
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Camp Director Coordinates with the other leadership staff to ensure the safety, efficiency, organization of all camp attendants, staff and family communication.
The Camp Director overseas all aquatics staff, assistant directors, inclusion, specialists and camp health care provider.
Essential Duties
In collaboration with the other Leadership Staff the director will ensure the safety of all campers and staff while at Camp Finberg.
Organizes camp training prior to the beginning of camp.
Maintains appropriate staff records and onboarding.
Communicates with parents to answer any questions and express confidence in having their child attend camp.
Will create weekly rosters and schedules for each group of campers in each age group.
The camp director will create weekly schedules for staff to maintain legal ratios for campers.
Schedules and oversees weekly camp meetings.
Monitors camp programming to ensure that counselors and program specialist are appropriately engaged with campers.
Engages in positive rapport and open communication with staff, campers, and parents/guardians.
Supervises counselors every day actions, supports and addresses disciplinary actions when necessary.
Is attentive to the feelings and emotions of campers, responds or intervenes appropriately.
Promotes the unique talents and diverse abilities of campers by establishing a welcoming environment.
Monitors interactions between campers to ensure healthy dialogue and offers guidance on conflict resolution as needed.
Attends all mandatory YMCA staff meetings, team meetings and staff trainings.
Abides by all camp and YMCA policies & procedures.
Actively promotes camp and the Attleboro YMCA.
Assists with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Maintain accurate face counts of campers under his/her supervision.
Be a consistent role model to the campers.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized camp space.
Maintain positive rapport and open communication with staff, campers, and parents/guardians.
Recognize and acknowledge good behavior throughout the day.
Promote and participate in all theme activities with enthusiasm.
Create a safe, inclusive, nurturing, and engaging environment for campers.
Remain attentive to the feelings and emotions of campers and respond or intervene appropriately.
Promote the unique talents and diverse abilities of campers by establishing a welcoming environment.
Facilitate and actively engage in games, activities, and events with campers with a focus on good sportsmanship.
Monitor interactions between campers to ensure healthy dialogue and offer guidance on conflict resolution as needed.
Create a sense of belonging for campers through shared experiences and teambuilding activities.
Attend all mandatory YMCA staff meetings, team meetings and staff trainings.
Abide by all camp and YMCA policies & procedures.
Actively promote camp and the Attleboro YMCA.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be at least 16 years old.
Prior experience working with children in a day camp setting.
Must be certified in CPR and First Aid
Ability to stay calm and respond effectively in an emergency
Quick and effective decision-making skills and strong communication skills
A positive, friendly attitude and strong interpersonal skills
Must be detail-oriented and able to communicate accurate information in a timely manner
A high level of maturity and responsibility
Must maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
