Mary, Queen of the Apostles Parish in Salem is currently looking for a part-time Director of Music to join their team.
The Director of Music’s primary responsibility is to plan and conduct ministry-based music programs in support of liturgical services, parish programs and as an accompanist as required.
Sundays and bi-weekly staff meetings required.
Work schedule shall be set in consultation with the Pastor.
18 - 20 hours weekly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Music Program Development
Consult the Pastor in determining goals of the parish’s overall music program
Provide music recommendations in a timely manner for liturgical services, in English and collaborate with Spanish Choir particularly for Sunday worship.
Coordinate the music programs with the liturgical calendar and become knowledgeable with the Archdiocese of Boston guidelines for appropriate music during religious services.
Keep informed on current music methods, materials, utilizing them where appropriate.
Recruit for and establish regular rehearsals for the following:
Adult Choir
Cantors
Develop new opportunities for community members to participate in the music ministry of the parish
Work with the Cantors and Choirs to develop their skills and presentation.
Assists in creating worship aids/ programs as needed.
Music Program Implementation
Direct the planning and conducting of music programs within the church.
Coordinate the bi-lingual liturgical schedules of music groups and individuals within the church.
Expand the breadth and depth of the community’s range of music, using available genres of music both traditional and contemporary.
Expect to work in a bi-lingual, bi-cultural context.
Availability for funerals and weddings services as required.
Acts as a substitute cantor as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a music minister
BA degree in music is preferred.
Must have knowledge of Catholic Church teachings with particular emphases in areas of liturgy and worship.
Excellent proficiency in at least one accompanying instrument required.
Be willing to be part of a team using the principles found in the Divine Renovation network
Be a practicing Catholic interested in growing as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
