Elementary Special Education Teacher - Developmental Learning Center (to cover a maternity leave)Program Description: This specialized in-district program provides developmentally appropriate specialized educational services to students with severe perceptual, motor, communication, learning, developmental, and cognitive deficits, which impede progress in basic academic and functional areas.
Students within the specialized programming receive individualized communication supports and assistive technology.
Students receive individualized and small group instruction and staff support to develop daily living skills.
Positive behavioral supports and sensory tools are utilized to develop self-regulation.
Communication between home, school, and outside service providers, to ensure the generalization of skills across environments, is an important component of the program.
The educational curriculum is significantly modified to meet and accommodate students' unique learning needs, according to their current performance levels.
Opportunities for inclusion are an integral part of this program; however, students may receive direct instruction in the content areas within the separate setting.
Students are integrated in school activities including morning meeting, snack, lunch, recess, and specials such as Art, Music, and Wellness.
Data is kept on an ongoing basis to measure progress and guide instruction.
Success in the students inclusion experiences serves as a basis for increasing time within the general education classrooms.
