The Falmouth Public Library is seeking a forward-thinking and enthusiastic full-time Young Adult Librarian to join our large, dynamic, community-centered organization with two branches.
This position works 37.
5 hours per week, including every other Saturday, in the Reference and Adult Services Department.
Under the general direction of the Head of Adult Services, the Young Adult Librarian has significant autonomy to manage the Teen Room and library services for teens and young adults.
The Young Adult Librarian creates a welcoming space for teens and offers educational and recreational programming to suit their interests, with flexibility to adapt as interests change and develop.
Other duties include but are not limited to: teen and young adult collection development; reference and readers/audiovisual/technology advisory services, including reference desk coverage as needed; and actively investigating and integrating emerging technologies and best practices into teen and young adult services.
There may also be outreach opportunities to ride our book bike to distribute free books if the successful applicant is interested.
The successful candidate will have enthusiasm for working with teens and young adults and will have an interest in current popular culture.
The Young Adult Librarian is creative, energetic, willing to try new ideas, and has a welcoming demeanor and excellent technology, communication, and customer service skills.
Minimum requirements include a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution and two years of increasingly responsible professional experience.
Knowledge of principles of professional library work, contemporary library trends and technology, and teen and young adult literature preferred.
Previous experience working with teens and young adults and working in a public library is strongly desired.
Starting Wage: Step 1 $29.
33/hour - Step 4 $32.
99/hour, with room to grow along the 7-step pay scale.
