ESSA minimum qualifications requirements* NAEYC preferred ** *ESSA – minimum qualification requirements: ? Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent AND ? Possess either: o An Associates’ (or higher) degree; OR o 48 credit hours completed at an Institution of High Education; OR o Scored 464 or higher on the ParaPro Test **NAEYC – educational qualification requirements: ? Possesses 12 college credits in certain early childhood/elementary education courses OR holds a CDA credential from the Council for Professional Recognition AND ? Completed one of the following: o An Associates’ (or higher) degree in early childhood education or certain related fields; OR o Possesses an Associates’ (or higher) degree in another area AND has worked or 3+ years in a NAEYC-Accredited program OR o Possess an Associates’ degree (or higher degree) in another area AND has worked for 3+years in a non-NAEYC Accredited program AND had at least 30 contact hours of relevant training during the past three years.
