Start Date January 8, 2024 (Spring Term) Division Academic Affairs Division Union Affiliation None Application Deadline 08 December 2023; Open Until Filled General Responsibilities Adjunct Marine Transportation Instructor Posting: November 2023 Deadline for application: 08 December 2023; Open Until Filled Contract Date: January 8, 2024 (Spring Term) Please note, these are non-benefitted, temporary/contract positions Duties: Instruct college level courses in a variety of Marine Transportation.
Preferred specializations include navigation, ship-handling and shipboard safety, seamanship, watchstanding, and pollution awareness.
Potential courses taught may include Electronic Charting and Display (ECDIS), Advanced Shiphandling, Basic Seamanship.
Massachusetts Maritime Academy follows a “Learn-Do-Learn” model, where our hands-on simulation labs and classroom experiences enable our students to “apply” textbook knowledge in the field.
The instructor will teach cadets in the basic concepts related to safe navigation and seamanship.
Qualifications and Requirements Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Transportation or related field; Masters Preferred Hold a Third Mate license with current Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) qualifications.
Have at least three years of full time experience in teaching at an accredited institution of higher learning, or have three years of service in a professional maritime field time (or a combination thereof) Possess an understanding of teaching in the university setting Exhibit excellent oral and written communications skills Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy How to Apply Application Deadline: 08 December 2023; Open until filled.
