Position Description
Reporting to the Vice Chair and CFO of State Street, the Controller and Business Unit CFO, will lead major aspects of financial management of the company including establishing the necessary financial best practices and functions.
The Controller and Business Unit CFO will be a strategic business partner and advisor to the executive team, and Board and responsible for the financial reporting and guidance to support successful company operations as well as crafting and executing around short, medium and long-range plans.
He or she will play a visible and strategic role for the corporation as the financial leader for the business as it grows.
The Controller and Business Unit CFO will display strong leadership capability, effectively motivating the team and driving results.
The Controller and Business Unit CFO is expected to lead by example and to build strong, trusting relationships throughout the organization and specifically with their finance and accounting team, the executive management team, operations, auditors, banks, and other key stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES Finance, Strategy, Planning & Management Serve as a proactive advisor and counselor to the Vice Chair of State Street; assist in driving informed decisions to continuously improve the business and its financial performance.
Evaluate financial performance of company; advise on short-term and long-term strategies to achieve operational goals, growth plans, budgets and forecasts.
Establish annual financial objectives that align with company’s plan for growth and expansion and participate in strategic initiatives that drive company toward those results.
Develop multi-year financials that brand the corporate lead strategic plan process Evaluate any onsite opportunities for financial and strategic benefit Engage on a regular basis with Board of Directors and executive team Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting Develop, analyze, and maintain monthly operating budgets and annual company operating budgets.
Prepare and present periodic financial budgeting reports including monthly P&L by division, forecast v.
budget by division, and weekly cash flow by division.
Analyze financial considerations of new business initiatives, product launches and/or new service offerings.
Manage financial planning and analysis department.
Business Unit Finance Supply 2-3 senior executives and EC members that lead 30-50% of STT business.
This will likely include the Markets and Finance business and the Asset Management business.
Controllership, Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations Provides top management with financial information necessary to control firm operations.
Through staff, responsible for financial and regulatory reporting Supervise accounting department to ensure proper functioning of company financial staff and all systems, databases and financial software.
Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
Oversee preparation and communication of weekly, monthly and annual financial statements.
Ensure timeliness and accuracy of reporting data to interested parties.
Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation.
Oversee preparation and timely filing of all federal, state and local tax returns.
Service as primary point of contact for external auditors; manage preparation and support of all audit activity.
Oversee acquisition and implementation of systems and software that support financial and account operations, automate processes, and increase efficiencies.
Qualifications This role encompasses more than 1000 staff.
It will be the senior most role in Finance under the CFO positioning the candidate for CFO succession 20+ years of experience in progressively more responsible financial leadership roles, including currently serving as a public company CFO or # 2 of a related lending / financial services business, ideally at the corporate level, or selectively, at the business unit or divisional level.
Strong finance foundation, ideally within a best-in-class finance training organization(s).
Must bring broad knowledge and experience across a range of finance functions (accounting, controls, reporting, systems, FP&A, treasury, cash management and balance sheet management).
Demonstrate experience working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial, non-political organization / culture.
Must be a hard-working, take-charge, and proactive leader with balanced, sound judgment.
Demonstrated track record of working closely with management and investors to improve performance, grow the company and create shareholder value.
Track record of partnership and collaboration with full leadership team, as well as working effectively across all levels of the organization A player-coach and doer; someone who takes on a lot, plans, is organized, is agile and performance driven.
Consistently meets deadlines, delivers accurate work, and operates in a fluid, fast-paced manner.
Demonstrate ability to closely oversee technical accounting and financial modeling skills (forecasting, statistical analysis, financial diagnosis).

Ability to build consensus and create collaborative relationships; effective relationship management and influencing/negotiating skills; high levels of initiative and personal accountability.

Salary Range: $300,000 - $412,500 Annual The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified.
